Policy Statement

The UTD Campus Wellness Committee is a University-wide Standing Committee appointed by the President not reporting to the Academic Senate of The University of Texas at Dallas.

The purpose of the UTD Campus Wellness Committee is to create a culture that promotes the value of individual and campus well-being through education and provision of appropriate physical facilities. The Committee helps implement the UT System wellness goals on the UT Dallas campus and provides additional programs, tools, and resources to build a culture of health. We focus on all components of our wellness program: emotional, intellectual, environmental, financial, health, nutrition, physical, and social.

The Committee shall be composed of no fewer than six voting members appointed by the President and shall include three staff members and three faculty members. One staff and one faculty may be retirees at the discretion of Staff Council and Academic Senate. Ex Officio members with voting privileges, include one representative from University Recreation, one representative from Student Wellness, two representatives from Human Resources (one Employee Wellness representative) and one representative from the Office of Sustainability.

Staff and retiree representatives will be nominated by the Staff Council. Faculty representatives will be nominated by the Academic Senate. Ex Officio representatives will be nominated by their departments. Without voting privileges, student representatives will be nominated by the Student Government and Graduate Student Assembly. Also without voting privileges, the Vice President and Chief of Staff shall serve as the Responsible University Official.

The term of service for voting representatives shall be for two years, effective September 1 to August 31, staggered in time to make approximately equal number of appointments expire each academic year. If for any reason a voting representative resigns, the President shall appoint another individual to serve the remainder of the unexpired term.
