Policy Statement

Committee Charge

The Food Service Advisory Committee is a University Committee of The University of Texas at Dallas appointed by the President.

The Food Service Advisory Committee is charged with the responsibility of soliciting input pertaining to food service-related operations, inclusive of, but not limited to, operational policies, procedural guidelines, menu offerings, and ancillary services. The scope of the Committee's authority and purview shall encompass meal plan administration, retail food venue operations, food truck concessions, catering services, and vending operations.

The Committee shall make recommendations to the Associate Vice President of Auxiliary Services and the Vice President of Administration with respect to matters of operational opportunity and/or identified concerns warranting administrative attention. The Committee shall also serve as a mechanism for obtaining meaningful student input regarding the selection, renewal, retention, and monitoring of food service providers operating on campus. In carrying out this responsibility, the Committee may solicit and evaluate student feedback concerning provider performance and service quality and may provide recommendations regarding desired qualifications, service expectations, and operational requirements for prospective and existing food service providers. In addition, governing policies shall ensure students have reasonable opportunities to discuss and evaluate the performance, conduct, and quality of food service providers operating within the institution's jurisdiction. The Committee shall facilitate ongoing student participation in monitoring food service providers and shall encourage periodic opportunities for students to engage with providers regarding service performance and customer satisfaction.

Membership

The Committee membership shall consist of seven voting members. They shall include four students and three from faculty and staff to be appointed by the President. The Student Government and Graduate Student Assembly shall each nominate two students for the committee. Faculty members are nominated by the Committee on University Service and staff members are nominated by the Staff Council. The Dean of Students, Director of Student Union, Resident District Manager of Food Services and Senior Director of Food and Retail Services shall serve as non-voting ex officio members.

The Associate Vice President for Auxiliary Services serves as the Responsible University Official and shall convene the first meeting of the Committee each year for the purpose of selecting the Chair and Vice Chair. Each member will serve for a one-year term starting September 1 and continuing to August 31. If for any reason a committee member cannot serve, the President shall appoint a replacement to serve the remainder of the unexpired term.

Reporting Requirements

Annually, but not later than August 31, the Chair of the Committee will provide the President with a written report of the Committee's activities for the prior academic year.
