UTDPP1122
Comprehensive Evaluation of Non-Academic Administrators
Policy Statement
Preamble
The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) is committed to regular, comprehensive reviews of its non-academic administrators that include the voice of faculty and staff members.
-
Policy:
- The Rules and Regulations of the Board of Regents, Rule 30501, Section 1 requires annual evaluation of all University of Texas System (UTS) employees to be used for the improvement of performance, promotion consideration, and merit salary review. UTDPP1047 Evaluation of Academic Administrators focuses on the evaluation of academic administrators whereas this policy addresses the evaluation of non-academic administrators. These comprehensive reviews shall take place every third year after the initial appointment and every six years thereafter. The reviews shall include input from faculty and staff across the institution, and, where appropriate, from students, alumni, community leaders, and other stakeholders.
- For the purposes of this policy, a non-academic administrator is defined as a Vice President reporting directly to the President, with the exception of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost and the Vice President for Research and Innovation who are reviewed under UTDPP1047 Evaluation of Academic Administrators.
-
Procedures:
-
Responsibility
- The President has delegated the comprehensive evaluation of non-academic administrators to the Vice President and Chief of Staff (VPCOS). The evaluation of the VPCOS will be delegated to the Chief Audit Officer or other member of the President's leadership team at the President's discretion.
-
Review Procedures
- Reviews will normally be initiated by the VPCOS who is responsible for the development of a timetable for the review process.
- The VPCOS is responsible for the solicitation and collection of campus stakeholder feedback and for the analysis of the conversations and/or responses.
- Stakeholder comment forms will be sent by the VPCOS to the non-academic administrator's direct reports and to other campus stakeholders (including faculty where appropriate) with whom the administrator frequently collaborates in their work function.
- To the extent allowed by law, the VPCOS will not reveal the identity of the sources of all feedback received in connection with the review of a non-academic administrator. Information collected as part of the interviews and surveys will be summarized and not attributed to specific individuals.
- The VPCOS will summarize stakeholder feedback for each non-academic administrator and will present this information to the President. At that time, the President meets with each vice president to discuss the feedback. Following those conversations, the VPCOS will share the responses and discuss issues raised during the review process with direct reports and appropriate campus stakeholders.
- At the beginning of the academic year (Fall semester), the results of the reviews will be shared by the President with the Academic Senate and Staff Council.
