Policy Statement

Committee Charge

The Non-Tenure Track (NTT) Faculty Affairs Committee is a standing Concurrent Committee of the Academic Senate of The University of Texas at Dallas. This committee is charged to study and to make recommendations on matters pertaining to full-time and part-time NTT faculty; including promotion paths, contract lengths, workload, professional development, opportunities for participation in shared governance, leadership opportunities, assessment of salaries, benefits eligibility, work environment and climate, and titles. The committee makes recommendations to the Academic Senate and relevant Senate and University-wide Committees about policy or issues related to its charge.

The Chair informs all NTT faculty of the committee's existence and purpose at the start of each academic year and identifies itself as a place for fielding concerns related to NTT faculty affairs on behalf of the Academic Senate.

The committee can request data relevant to its charge from the Provost's Office and the Office of Institutional Success and Decision Support. The committee reviews implementation of university and school policies related to NTT faculty affairs, including but not limited to UTDPP1061- Hiring and Evaluation Procedures for Nontenure-System Faculty and UTDPP1062 - General Standards and Procedures for Review of Nontenure-System Faculty.

The committee meets a minimum of twice each long semester and works collaboratively with the Academic Senate, relevant committees, and university offices.

Membership

Voting members will consist of:

  1. One full-time NTT faculty member from each school
  2. Up to three part-time faculty members from different schools (3 members)

The committee will include the Speaker of the Faculty, Secretary of the Faculty, and a representative(s) from the Office of the Provost as non-voting ex officio members.

Members shall be appointed by the President from nominations submitted by the Committee on Committees and confirmed by the Academic Senate. The appointments shall be for two years and staggered so that no more than one-half of the terms expire in any one year. The Chair and Vice Chair shall be appointed annually by recommendation of the Committee on Committees from among the voting members.

Reporting Requirements

The committee provides an annual report each year before May 1 to the Academic Senate with findings and recommendations to improve NTT faculty affairs.

Committee Responsible University Official

The Responsible University Official for this policy will be the Provost.
